Tech Advantage #4

Technology has always appealed to me, though as the online world has grown, so has my love of and use for it.  As teachers, these tech tools offer a world of opportunity, not only as they support student learning, but in how they shape our everyday.  Here’s one example:

Saving the environment

I’ve always loved sorting and organizing things, especially if it means buying more office supplies.  From elementary school all the way to higher ed, and into my own classroom, it’s just plain fun to peruse the aisles at your nearest stationery store.  But what’s even better than new pencils, pens or cute notebooks?  None at all!  What do I mean?  Well, the process of making paper at all is extremely hard on the environment.  Not to mention, it means destroying lots of trees that could be pumping carbon dioxide into our lungs, instead of filling our offices (and homes!) with unnecessary mental clutter.  It can also save your back, because with the use of new tools like Google Classroom (or even just Google Drive/Apps), you can save yourself the lugging home of twenty-nine gazillion student notebooks, and then lugging them aaaaaalll the way back to school again.  This saves space in your bag, your car, your home, and your classroom.  All while taking care of the planet we all share.  This saves resources, both in the creation of paper, and in its future disposal.  Think about it.
