Office Hours with Google Sheets

Whether we like it or not, keeping office is part of our job as teachers.  It’s important to keep organized and know how to make the most of the tools available to make efficient use of time, since there is always so much to do.  As a teacher, it is not uncommon to advertise office hours.  If particular students are wanting to meet with you to go over an assignment, ask questions, or get some feedback, they may want to schedule time with you.  Ditto for parent-teacher conferences.  So make yourself available, but let others do the scheduling work.  All you have to do is create a Google Sheet with your office hours listed in 30 min or 1 hr blocks, and share the link so others can put their names in the appropriate slot.

Here’s a schedule template: Google Sheets Office Hours to get you started.

In fact, if you’re wanting to save students the hassle of physically coming to your office, you could always meet up using Google Hangouts.

Additionally, for Google Apps/GSuite users, you can set up appointment booking using Google Calendar.  Here’s how: Book Appointments Using Google Calendar.

I love, love, love using Google Drive in my day-to-day, and with students.  Interested in learning more about these great tools?  I’m now offering this mini-course on G Suite.  Check it out!
