#TCEA17 Google Mystery Hangout

 

During one of Monday’s sessions, we were taken on a Google Mystery Hangout.  How does this work?  While this kind of hangout can be used with many different types of guessing games, we had to guess the state.  Each classroom is prepped ahead of time as to the protocol, order, and information about their state.  Students are also taught to ask “power questions”, yes or no questions that will help narrow down the possible options as quickly as possible.  Once the Hangout begins, classrooms take turns asking power questions of each other, in order to guess what state the other class is from.  During this session, we participated in a hangout with a 5th grade classroom from Georgia.  Needless to say, they were pretty sharp, and were able to correctly guess our state faster than we were!  This game can also be played with students guessing numbers, cities, or any other type of information.  This allows students to prepare ahead of time, and to learn more about their own city or state while also learning about other cities and states as well.
