Lessons from Year 1: Learn to Compromise

During my first year in the teaching field, as I learned a new culture and language and took in new surroundings, I also learned and grew a lot as a teacher.  This week I will be sharing some of these lessons learned while teaching ESL in South Korea.

Part of working on a team, and especially in the position of Coordinator, requires lots of compromise.  Not everyone can get what they want all the time, but usually if you are willing to be flexible, most everyone can get what they want at least some of the time.  In my role that meant being fair when scheduling teachers for classes and weekend programs.  Everyone wanted certain times off, but fortunately the teachers I worked with were flexible and willing enough that everyone could have their choice, and all the classes and activities got covered and taught.
