Ready for some leisure reading?

As the school year is coming to a close, and you’re likely looking forward to a few days of peace and quiet, and perhaps even some well-needed rest, I would like to recommend a few of my favorite books.  These can make for great personal reading, but are also great for use in the classroom.  Either for student reading, or teacher led studies (depending on your classroom dynamics).

The Printer and the Preacher chronicles the friendship of George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin throughout the careers of both–one as a traveling preacher of increasing fame, and the other as a budding statesman.  Though very different in their outlook on life and its meaning, as well as that of society, they both find a deep friend in the other, and influence each other greatly as they both play a part in the growth of the United States as a fledgling nation.  This gives context to the life of one of America’s founders, and would work well in a US History class, unit, or lesson.
